Tejas Thackeray Discovered a New Fish Hiranyakeshi: तेजस ठाकरे यांनी शोधला नवा मासा, नाव ठेवलं 'हिरण्यकेशी

मुख्यमंत्री उद्धव ठाकरे (CM Uddhav Thackeray) यांचे चिरंजीव आणि आदित्य ठाकरे (Aditya Thackeray) यांचे बंधू तेजस ठाकरे (Tejas Thackeray) हे राजकारणात न रमता निसर्गात अधिक रमले आहेत. नुकतीच त्यांनी सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वतरांगांमधील (Sahyadri Mountain Range,) अंबोली घाटात (Amboli Ghat,) असलेल्या हिरण्यकश नदीत (Hiranyakeshi River) आढळणारा नवा मासा शोधून काढला आहे. 'हिरण्यकेशी' (Hiranyakeshi) असे या माश्याचे नाव ठेवले आहे. सोनेरी रंगाचे केस असलेली ही नवीच प्रजाती तेजस ठाकरे यांनी शोधली आहे. ठाकरे यांनी शोधलेली या माश्याची ही चौथी प्रजाती आहे. ही या माश्याची 20 वी प्रजाती आहे. तेजस ठाकरे यांनी या आधीही पालींच्या अनेक दुर्मिळ प्रजाती शोधून काढल्या आहेत.

'हिरण्यकेशी' म्हणजे काय?

तेजस ठाकरे यांनी शोधलेल्या नव्या माश्याचे नाव 'हिरण्यकेशी' असे ठेवले आहे. हे नाव संस्कृत भाषेतील आहे. संस्कृत भाषेत 'हिरण्यकेशी' या शब्दाचा अर्थ सेनेरी रंगाचे केस असा आहे.

It gives me immense joy in announcing the discovery of this stunning fish - Schistura hiranyakeshi sp. nov. (Hiranyakeshi loach), a jewel from the heart of the Sahyadris in Maharashtra, published in ‘Aqua, International Journal of Ichthyology’! Endemic to its type locality, the 'kund' at the ancient Hiranyakeshvar temple, where the mighty Hiranyakeshi river originates. It is near the quaint town of Amboli, a hotspot for new discoveries across multiple taxas, with this fish being the 20th new species (and my 4th) to be described from this tiny town in Sindhudurg district since 2005! We have named this species after it's type locality and the ephitet "hiranyakeshi" in Sanskrit also means 'golden hair' alluding to the brilliant golden colouration seen in adults. Leading the paper is Dr. Praveenraj Jayasimhan, a young and extremely passionate ichthyologist, whom I have been working closely with since the past year, Along with Mr. Shankar Balasubramanian, an explorer & underwater photographer traveling across India documenting our incredible freshwater fish diversity and their shrinking habitats for the past 18 years! वन्यजीवाच्या नव्या प्रजातीचा शोध लावण्याची तेजस ठाकरे यांची ही पहिलीच वेळ नाही. या आधीही तेजस ठाकरे यांनी 11 दुर्मिळ प्रजातींचा शोध लावला आहे. यात खेकडा, पाली आणि इतर काही वन्यजीवांचा समावेश आहे. तेजस ठाकरे यांनी केलेले खेकड्यांविषयीचे संशोधन न्यूझीलंडमधील ‘झुटाक्सा’ अंकात प्रसिद्ध झाले आहे. तेजस यांचं खेकड्यांविषयी दुसरेही एक संशोधन प्रसिद्ध झाले होते. यात पश्चिम घाटातील एका खेकड्याचे नाव 'सह्याद्री' या मराठी नावावरुन सह्याद्रियाना' असे ठेवण्यात आले.
