मोरोक्कोमध्ये शुक्रवारी झालेल्या भीषण भूकंपानंतर मृतांची संख्या वाढली आहे. मोरोक्कोच्या गृह मंत्रालयाने सांगितले की, प्रचंड भूकंपात मृतांची संख्या 1037 झाली आहे, तर किमान 1200 लोक जखमी झाले आहेत. यूएस जिओलॉजिकल सर्व्हेनुसार, भूकंपाचा केंद्रबिंदू माराकेशच्या नैऋत्येस 71 किमी अंतरावर असलेल्या हाय अॅटलस पर्वतांमध्ये 18.5 किमी खोलीवर होता. रात्री 11.11 वाजता भूकंप झाला आणि सोशल मीडियावरील व्हिडिओंमध्ये लोक रस्त्यावरून धावताना दिसत आहेत. इतर व्हिडिओंमध्ये खराब झालेल्या इमारती आणि रस्ते ढिगाऱ्याने भरलेले दिसत आहेत. भूकंपाच्या केंद्रापासून सुमारे 350 किमी अंतरावर असलेल्या राजधानी राबात तसेच कॅसाब्लांका आणि एसाओइरा शहरांमध्ये भूकंपाचे धक्के जाणवले.
