सोव्हिएत मधून सुटलेल्या स्त्रिया, मुले आणि वृद्धांसह सुमारे 6,000 पोलिश निर्वासितांना त्यावेळी कोल्हापूरच्या वळिवडे मध्ये राजसंस्थान कडून आश्रय देण्यात आला होता.
पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी सध्या पोलंडच्या दौर्यावर आहे. या दौर्या दरम्यान त्यांनी राजधानी वॉर्सा येथील कोल्हापूर स्मारकाला भेट दिली. महाराष्ट्राच्या संस्कृतीचं कौतुक करताना त्यांनी दुसऱ्या महायुद्धादरम्यान पोलिश निर्वासितांसाठी आशेचा किरण ठरलेल्या महाराष्ट्रातील वळिवडे गावाचा उल्लेख केला. त्यामागील मानवतावादी विचारांचा पीएम मोदी यांनी पोलंड मध्ये मराठीत उल्लेख करत उपस्थित मराठीजनांची मनं जिंकली. वॉर्सा येथील स्मारक कोल्हापूरच्या महान राजघराण्याला दिलेली मानवंदना आहे. दरम्यान देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांनी X वर मोदींच्या भाषणाचा व्हिडिओ पोस्ट केला आहे.
