पद्मविभूषण पुरस्कार विजेते गिल यांनी दक्षिण दिल्लीतील साकेत येथील मॅक्स रुग्णालयात अखेरचा श्वास घेतला. 1996 ते 2001 पर्यंत त्यांनी भारताचे मुख्य निवडणूक आयुक्त म्हणून काम केले.
माजी मुख्य निवडणूक आयुक्त आणि काँग्रेस नेते मनोहर सिंग गिल यांचे रविवारी (15 ऑक्टोबर) निधन झाले. सोमवारी (16 ऑक्टोबर) दिल्लीत त्यांच्या पार्थिवावर अंत्यसंस्कार करण्यात येणार आहेत. पद्मविभूषण पुरस्कार विजेते गिल यांनी दक्षिण दिल्लीतील साकेत येथील मॅक्स रुग्णालयात अखेरचा श्वास घेतला. 1996 ते 2001 पर्यंत त्यांनी भारताचे मुख्य निवडणूक आयुक्त म्हणून काम केले. काँग्रेस सरकारमध्ये ते युवा कार्य आणि क्रीडा मंत्रीही होते. याशिवाय त्यांनी सांख्यिकी आणि कार्यक्रम अंमलबजावणी मंत्रीपदही भूषवले.
