महाराष्ट्र काँग्रेसचे अध्यक्ष नाना पटोले यांनी कुस्तीपटू विनेश फोगटच्या अपात्रतेवर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करताना वेगळाच मुद्दा उपस्थित केला आहे. फोगाट यांची अपात्रता म्हणजे "आंतरराष्ट्रीय पातळीवरील राजकारण" असल्याची भावना पटोले यांनी व्यक्त केली आहे. भारतासाठी सुवर्णपदक जिंकण्याच्या जवळ असलेल्या फोगटला महिलांच्या 50 किलो वजनी गटाच्या अंतिम फेरीपूर्वी वजन जास्त असल्याने तिला अपात्र ठरवण्यात आले आहे
