हेलिकॉप्टर पायलट वीरेंद्र सिंग पठानिया (Virender Singh Pathania) यांची भारतीय तटरक्षक दलाचे (Indian Coast Guard) नवीन महासंचालक (New Chief of Indian Coast Guard) म्हणून नियुक्ती करण्यात आली आहे. देशाच्या 7 हजार किलोमीटरहून अधिक लांबीच्या किनारपट्टीचे रक्षण करण्याची जबाबदारी त्यांच्यावर आहे. पठानिया मूळचे हिमाचल प्रदेशचा (Himachal Pradesh) आहे. तटरक्षक दलाचे महासंचालक म्हणून पदभार स्वीकारल्यानंतर वीरेंद्र सिंग पठानिया यांना 'गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर' (Guard of Honour) प्रदान करण्यात आला.
