The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) कडून मालदीव्हच्या डेप्युटी मंत्र्यांनी सोशल मीडीयावर भारताचे पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांनी केलेल्या विधानाचा निषेध केला आहे. 'भारत हा आपला सर्वात जवळचा शेजारी आणि मित्र देश आहे. आपल्या संपूर्ण इतिहासात भारताने नेहमीच विविध संकटांना प्रथम प्रतिसाद दिला आहे आणि सरकारने तसेच भारतातील लोकांनी आपल्याशी जपलेल्या घनिष्ट संबंधांबद्दल आम्ही अत्यंत आभारी आहोत.' अशा भावना त्यांनी व्यक्त केल्या आहेत. दरम्यान भारतीयांकडून या प्रकरणानंतर सोशल मीडीयात #बॉयकॉटमालदीव्ह असा हॅशटॅग ट्रेंड करत मालदीव्ह ट्रीप वर बहिष्कार टाकण्यात येत आहे.
