यूएस जिओलॉजिकल सर्व्हे (USGS) नुसार, उत्तर कॅलिफोर्नियाच्या किनाऱ्यावर 5.5 तीव्रतेचा भूकंप झाला, त्यामुळे कोणतीही हानी किंवा दुखापत झाल्याचे वृत्त अद्याप तरी नाही. उत्तर कॅलिफोर्नियाच्या विरळ लोकसंख्येच्या प्रदेशातील शहरांत देखील हलके धक्के जाणवल्याची नोंद करण्यात आली. कॅलिफोर्नियामध्ये भूकंप हे नित्याचेच आहेत. राज्यातील शेवटचा प्राणघातक भूकंप हा 6.4 तीव्रतेचा भूकंप होता
