सुदानमध्ये सध्या हिंसाचार सुरु झाला असून या देशात अडकलेल्या भारतीयांना परत आणण्यासाठी ऑपरेशन कावेरी सुरु करण्यात आली आहे. सुडानमध्ये अडकलेल्या 278 भारतीयांचा पहिला जथ्था हा आईएनएस सुमेधावरुन 278 लोकांना घेऊन पोर्ट सुडानवरुन जेद्याहसाठी रवाना झाले आहे.
