विजया रहाटकर यांनी आज (22 ऑक्टोबर) National Commission for Women च्या अध्यक्षपदाचा पदभार स्वीकरला आहे. पदभार स्वीकारल्यानंतर त्यांनी पहिल्या भाषणात, महिलांच्या हक्कांचे समर्थन करण्यासाठी आणि लिंग-आधारित हिंसाचाराला बळी पडलेल्यांना न्याय सुनिश्चित करण्यासाठी वचनबद्धतेची माहिती दिली आहे. राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोगाच्या अध्यक्षपदी विराजमान झालेल्या त्या पहिल्या मराठी व्यक्ती आहेत. त्यामुळे महाराष्ट्राच्या दृष्टीने ही मोठी अभिमानास्पद बाब आहे.
