सुप्रीम कोर्टाने अलीकडेच म्हटले आहे की कुटुंबात गृहिणीची भूमिका "मूर्त" उत्पन्न मिळवणाऱ्या कुटुंबातील सदस्याइतकीच महत्त्वाची असते. न्यायमूर्ती सूर्यकांत आणि केव्ही विश्वनाथन यांच्या खंडपीठाने हे मान्य केले की गृहिणींचे योगदान मोजणे कठीण आहे परंतु हे योगदान उच्च मूल्याचे असल्याचेही नमूद केले.
