चीनच्या ली शिफेंगने पुन्हा एकदा भारताचे मन मोडले. सांघिक स्पर्धेत श्रीकांतनंतर ली झिफेंगने एकेरीत एचएस प्रणॉयचा पराभव केला. प्रणॉयला उपांत्य फेरीत 21-16, 21-9 असा पराभव स्वीकारावा लागला. उपांत्य फेरीत पराभूत होऊनही प्रणॉय इतिहास रचण्यात यशस्वी ठरला. प्रणॉयने उपांत्य फेरी गाठल्याने भारताचे पदक निश्‍चित झाले. त्याला कांस्यपदकावर समाधान मानावे लागले. मात्र, या कांस्यपदकाने भारताची चार दशकांची प्रतीक्षा संपवली. भारताने 41 वर्षांच्या प्रतीक्षेनंतर आशियाई क्रीडा स्पर्धेत बॅडमिंटन एकेरीत पदक जिंकले.
