ओडिशात कालाहंडी जिल्ह्यातील नारला पर्वतरांगेत रविवारी एका वनरक्षकाचा वन्य हत्तीने तुडवून हत्त्या केली. प्रशांत पाल असे मृत रेंजरचे नाव आहे. तो कालाहंडी उत्तर विभागातील नारला पर्वतरांग परिसरात कार्यरत होता. मिळालेल्या माहितीनुसार, हत्तींचा कळप जंपदार गावाजवळील शेतात फिरला होता. लोकांपासून दूर असलेल्या हत्तींचा पाठलाग करण्यासाठी पाल आणि त्यांची टीम घटनास्थळी गेली. ते हत्तींना पुन्हा जंगलात ढकलत असताना त्यांच्यापैकी एकाने पालवर हल्ला करून त्याला चिरडले. त्याला गंभीर अवस्थेत भवानीपटना रुग्णालयात नेण्यात आले, मात्र तो वाचला नाही.
